The set day arrived. 14th of March, 2020 was a memorable day of joy for the trustees and entire members of the Heart of Esther Foundation as the inaugural ceremony rocks the city of Abeokuta.
The hall was filled with young girls and mothers from different walks of life to grace the occasion.
Present at the event were eminent personalities, Eng. Ladipo Sowande, the Chief Executive Officer of the Heart of Esther Foundation showed his unwavering support to this great event.
Mrs Mercy Sowande, the visioner and convener of the Heart of Esther foundation delivered her touching speech as she elaborated on the vision and the mission statement of the organisation. She made it clear that HOE FOUNDATION is basically established to cater for the underprivileged girls in area such as girl’s education, child abuse, child-maternity and other issues affecting the development of girl child in the society. She also emphasised that the organization is not a political oriented now or later. Heart of Esther Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to empowering and developing underprivileged girl child.
However, Professor Mrs Folake Henshaw, the guest speaker of the day, elucidated on the paradigm shift in our social orientation about the girl child. She advocated that society should give equal rights to the girl child, right to social participations, education and development.
“God is not a respecter of gender” said professor Mrs Folake. She expanciated further that God gave us two genders male and female to work together for the development of our society, but African tradition and culture seem bias and side line female gender in social participation. Professor Henshew also established that global orientation about the female gender are changing and that Nigeria, even Africa should change as we give equal opportunity to female gender in the society.
She commended the Heart of Esther Foundation for taking up the responsibility to add value to the underprivileged girls.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mrs Oluwafunmilola Oladende in her speech encouraged the girls to live an exceptional life as they set goals for themselves and determine to achieve their goals. She also prompted them to speak out on any form of abuse or challenges facing them. They can call the Heart of Esther Foundation for counseling or an intervention in any case of sexual abuse.
The chairman of the occasion Engr. Akinbo Oyejola said “the society that should help the young stars are no where to be found and the young stars decided to fix their problems by themselves. As a result of this the young stars fell into several problems such as unwanted pregnancy, drop out of school, alcohol, drug abuse just mention a few.”He commended the courage of the brain behind the heart of Esther Foundation for taking the bull by the horn by attending to the needs of underprivileged girl child. He further solicited for the support of people and institutions to make the vision a reality.
The occasion was coloured with many attractions such as presentation of certificate of beneficiary to some young girls and also collection of the data of the new beneficiaries, comedy by the MC, recharge card game time, question and answer time.
Heart of Esther Foundation is set to contribute her quota to the development of underprivileged girls. Therefore, people with same heart of gold should rise up and join hands with the convener and visioner, Engr. & Mrs Sowande, entire trustees and members of the organization to support the vision for the girl child in the society.
