On the early day of February 2020 Lagos state government finally executed and enacted the law that ban motorcycle popularly called Okada rider and the tricycle. The state government banned the use of motorcycle and tricycle as a means of transportation.
Motorcycle and Tricycle became an important means of transportation in Lagos for over a decade. Young men and women across the states in Nigeria and from neighboring countries came to Lagos in search for green pasture and engaged in riding either Okada or tricycle as a means of making a living.
However, it seems that the majority of people living in Lagos state and depend on this means of transportation are finding it difficult to move around and more pressure impose on little road worthy commercial vehicles forced the drivers to increase transport fare in order to ease off the pressure.
Our correspondent went to Ikeja Allen round about, One of the major place affected by this law and the transport situation there was very bad, people were stranded while some that can not struggle for vehicle or stand for too long decided to trek till they were able to get a bus going to their destination.
Many of this people Affected by the law blame governor Sanwoolu for the sudden decision to stop motorcycle and tricycle transportation in eleven local government area of Lagos without making adequate provisions to ease off the pressure.
Nevertheless, where some people condemn the action of Gov. Sanwoolu others commended his action and advise the citizens to be calm and adjust to a new order in Lagos state transportation system.
According to the opinion poll the enactment of the law that kicks off the Okada and tricycle rider has security undertone. The decision has to do with new security engineering of the state based on security information that some terrorist organization wants to strike in Lagos.
Meanwhile most of these Okada riders in Lagos could cooperate with terrorist in carry out the attack. Therefore Lagos state government took proactive step to stop the use of Okada and tricycle in some local government area in order to secure lives and properties of precious Lagosians.
Since the law was enacted, although movement had been a little bit stressful yet there is calmness and everybody is continuing with business activities in the state.
Report established that the same week the law stop the Okada rider over ten trucks were loaded up with Okada and tricycle ready to find their way out of Lagos to other states or go back to the north especially the young northerns.
